This week at Sonic Lunch: Frontier Ruckus with Chris Bathgate

by Bank of Ann Arbor July 2, 2012 8:52

8:00am, 7/5: Sonic Lunch is still planned for outdoors in Liberty Plaza. Stay tuned for updates.

Yes, there is a Sonic Lunch on Thursday, July 5. We're serving up a full menu of indie folk music for the holiday week with a double bill of Frontier Ruckus and Chris Bathgate.

Chris Bathgate is a prominent American Indie folk singer/songwriter in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor area. His signature country-tinged gothic folk has been perfectly honed in his latest critically acclaimed album Salt Year.

Frontier Ruckus is a literate dynamic folk-derived band from Detroit with many layers of complexity within their music. Below the obvious layer, many fans sensed an intangible element ingrained within the notes and lyrics that Frontier Ruckus, through some kind of rare ability, turned memories into melodies and transformed a from-the-inside-out examination of their native Michigan into a creaky back-porch storytelling session relevant well beyond the Great Lakes.

Join us on Thursday, July 5 from 11:45a to 1:30p in downtown Ann Arbor's Liberty Plaza.

This week at Sonic Lunch: Mitch Ryder

by Bank of Ann Arbor June 20, 2012 9:32

Bank of Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch is proud to welcome Motor-City rock icon Mitch Ryder to the stage for an epic free performance in Liberty Plaza Thursday, June 21. Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels served as the musical bridge between the Motown soul factory and the high energy, take no prisoners rock ‘n’ roll that would roar out of Detroit via Iggy & The Stooges, MC5, Ted Nugent and Bob Seger. Mitch is known for his hits in the mid to late 1960s, most notably “Devil with a Blue Dress On”, their highest-charting single at #4, as well as “Sock It to Me-Baby!”, a #6 hit in 1967, and “Jenny Take a Ride!”, which reached #10 in 1965. Mitch has been called “the unsung heart and soul of the Motor City rock and roll scene” by the All Music Guide, and is celebrating a career that has spanned six decades.

Following his performance, Mitch will discuss and sign his new autobiography, Devils & Blue Dresses: My Wild Ride as a Rock and Roll Legend, at 7 p.m. at the Ypsilanti District Library, 5577 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti, MI.

Ann Arbor’s 107one’s Martin Bandyke gets us excited for this week’s Sonic Lunch: Mitch Ryder comes to Sonic Lunch for Thursday’s Sonic Lunch.

What would summer be without street fairs and music in the park? But with so much oriented toward bringing people into Ann Arbor, sometimes it's nice to have something specifically for the locals. Not only does Sonic Lunch deliver 12 weeks of free noon-time concerts to downtown, the president of Bank of Ann Arbor actually helps pick the bands.

The Bank of Ann Arbor Sonic Lunch makes downtown Ann Arbor a cooler place to be on Thursdays over lunch and also supports many locally-based bands who appreciate the opportunity to play in an outdoor park setting. It is fun to see the diversity of the crowds with the little children holding balloons and dancing to the music, moms getting an afternoon out with kids in strollers, many fans sitting in lawn chairs as close to the band as possible, and the large amount of business professionals enjoying a wonderful lunch hour of music.”
