This week at Sonic Lunch: Mayer Hawthorne & The County

If you haven’t heard of Mayer Hawthorne yet, you might want to get familiar.  This Huron High School and University of Michigan graduate (whom former classmates may know better as Andrew Cohen) has reached #8 in the billboard charts, made the rounds on the late-night talk show circuit, received rave reviews from just about every music magazine you could get your hands on, and has been playing sold-out shows around the world during his meteoric rise to fame over the last few years.

Yet to listen to the music of this 29 year-old superstar, you would swear you were hearing a motown hit straight out of the 1970′s.  In fact, when his record label first heard Hawthorne, they thought they were listening to re-edits of obscure late-’60s/early-’70s soul singles, not the work of a multi-instrumentalist ingenue.  Perhaps this explains why fans of all ages are attracted to his music, and why he’s often credited with inspiring a Motown Revival, exposing a new generation of fans to music from Detroit’s bygone era.

Join us on Thursday, July 26 for an all-out dance party on Liberty as Bank of Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch serves up what will surely be one of the most unforgettable concerts Ann Arbor has ever seen.  The music begins at 11:30 with local indie-pop darlings Lightning Love, with Mayer Hawthorne & The County expected to take the stage around noon.

Help us welcome this Ann Arborite back to his hometown and be a part of Sonic Lunch history.  We’ll see you there.
