Mobile Banking Security

by Bank of Ann Arbor May 9, 2012 9:48

Bank of Ann Arbor offers you a variety of convenient ways to access your accounts. For each, we take the greatest care to ensure that all of our platforms maintain the same high level of security and integrity, from our ATM network to Online Banking to Mobile Banking itself.

How do we keep your information secure?

The same industry standards we have always employed to keep Online Banking secure extend to our Mobile Banking application as well.

Username and password to confirm your identity and ensure the privacy of each Mobile Banking session you conduct

Personal security question to further guard against identity theft

Firewalls - to protect our programs from any unauthorized or malicious intrusion

Encryption - to protect the transmission of data including customer account information and the integrity of all transactions

Banking in secure sessions

Each mobile banking session begins only after you establish your identity via unique, encrypted password and security question. These are required every time you log in. Your session automatically ends when you exit the application, and it will automatically time out if you get sidetracked.

Things you can do to protect yourself

Download the app from reputable sources only - such as iTunes® App Store, AndroidTM Market.

Use your phone's built-in lock function - set a password-protect for start-up or time-out.

Protect your password - do not reveal it to anyone.

Protect your phone - from viruses and malware just like you do for your computer by installing mobile security software.

Memorize your password - don't keep it stored or written anywhere.

Never leave your mobile device unattended - while using the Bank of Ann Arbor mobile app or any other mobile activity.

Never use public Wi-Fi – when accessing online and mobile banking.

Log out - completely when you complete a mobile banking session.

Secure management of your money (and the personal information required to process your transactions) is at the very foundation of our business. Whether you access your accounts via teller, drive-up, telephone, Internet, or mobile device, Bank of Ann Arbor protects you with the highest security measures available.

Find Personal CheckFree Bill Pay Inside Online Banking

by Bank of Ann Arbor August 4, 2011 9:12

On August 10, 2011 we completed an upgrade and the link to access Personal BillPay is now inside Online Banking. That's why the link on the left has been removed.  Business BillPay will remain unchanged at this time.

  • You will need to log on to Online Banking to use CheckFree BillPay.  There will no longer be a link on boaa.com to access CheckFree. Bookmarked links will not work either. Once you are logged into Online Banking, select CheckFree from the menu at the top.  You will no longer need a separate username and password to sign into CheckFree BillPay. The functionality will remain the same for making payments and editing biller information.  You will be able to view online billing statements within CheckFree.

  • The first time you click on CheckFree from within Online Banking, you will be asked to accept the Terms & Conditions before proceeding.

  • There will be two new options with the single sign-on version of CheckFree BillPay.  First is the ability to pay people directly, referred to as Zash Pay.  This will allow you to electronically send and receive money to your personal payees (domestic) in as little as one business day.  A small fee will be charged for each transaction. The second is the ability to send payments with next day delivery.  There is an additional fee for this service.

We hope you will enjoy the benefits of a single sign-on to CheckFree BillPay through Online Banking.

Please contact our Electronic Banking team at 734-761-9048 or e-banking@boaa.com with any questions or concerns.

Tips for a More Safe and Secure Internet Shopping Experience

by Bank of Ann Arbor November 29, 2010 3:15

Holiday shoppers this year are expected to spend more than ever online.  A few simple precautions can make a big difference. Bank of Ann Arbor wants to help make sure that you have the information you need to shop safely and securely anywhere, anytime.

Here are some points to keep in mind to help protect your personal information when shopping online and to lessen the likelihood of fraud.

• Make sure your computer and browser are secure. Set your firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware software to automatically update and scan your PC. Check to ensure the firewall protection is turned on and is at the highest setting.

• Don’t create passwords that include easily accessed personal information, such as mother’s maiden name or date of birth. Instead, use something unique that only you know and include uppercase and non-alphanumeric characters.

• Don't give personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet unless you know who you’re dealing with and preferably only if you’ve initiated the contact. Never give out Social Security or driver’s license numbers or date of birth, particularly over the phone in public places. If you must share personal information, confirm that you are dealing with a legitimate organization.

• If you receive an e-mail asking for personal information, do not hit the reply button or click on any link in the e-mail. Instead, go directly to the sender’s website by typing in its web address.

• Look for secure sites with an “s” in the URL (https://) and a closed-padlock icon on the webpage.

• Always double-check the URL to be sure you are shopping with the company you intended to shop with. A simple typo can help identity thieves.

• Know who you are dealing with. If you’re using a company’s site for the first time, consider checking it out with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) or use a search engine with the name of the company and “fraud” to determine if other consumers have posted negative reviews.

• Never respond to an offer by way of a spam or bulk e-mail. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

• Avoid providing unnecessary information, such as annual income, spending habits, hobbies and lifestyle data.

• Shop with U.S.-based companies. Domestic state and federal consumer-protection laws apply. You’ll be protected and have recourse should something go awry.

• Register your credit and debit cards at www.verifiedbyvisa.com or www.mastercardsecurecode.com for a more secure online shopping experience. Some banks offer virtual credit card account numbers that are generated each time you make a purchase, and some e-mail providers let you create several aliases to protect your personal e-mail address.

• Above all, monitor your online card or bank account statements for unauthorized activity and report this immediately to the bank.  Credit cards and Visa and MasterCard branded debit cards offer consumer protections in the event of fraud. Keep records of all your purchases in case there’s a problem.
